Who is God?
The only entity in existence, the reason for whose existence is in Himself. God’s existence is self-dependent, self-sufficient and uncaused. For centuries, there have been several attempts to point to God. I'm not going to go into detail about those attempts. However, only one person, Jesus Christ, has proven His divinity throughout the centuries.
C.S. Lewis (an atheist who finally came to trust Jesus Christ with his life) wrote this in his book ‘Mere Christianity’ about Jesus Christ declaring forgiveness to a sinful woman and a paralytic (Luke 5: 20; Luke 7:48), “I mean the claim to forgive sins; any sins. Now unless the speaker is God, this is preposterous as to be comic. We can all understand how a man forgives offences against himself. You tread on my toe and I forgive you, you steal my money and I forgive you. But what should we make of a man, himself unrobbed and untrodden on, who announced that he forgave you for treading on other men’s toes and stealing other men’s money? Asinine fatuity is the kindest description we should give to his conduct. Yet this is what Jesus did. He told people that their sins were forgiven, and never waited to consult all the other people whom their sins had undoubtedly injured.” Some of Jesus' statements were difficult for people to comprehend back then. The struggles of modern minds are similar. C.S. Lewis went on to say that even those who struggle to accept Jesus as God and instead prefer to accept Him as a moral teacher miss the point – that if it isn't God who can say such things, then the only option is to dismiss Him as a lunatic. The following are a few of them:
- I am the resurrection and the life…. (John 11:25)
- I am the bread of life. (John 6:48)
- I have the power to lay down my life and I have the power to take it again (John 10:17)
- I am the Way, the truth and the Life (John 14:6)
- All power in heaven and earth is given unto me (John 14:6)
- Because I live you shall live also (John 14:19)
- He claimed to have existed before the patriarchs and the early men of time (John 8:58)
"Now it seems to me that Jesus was neither a lunatic nor a fiend; however strange, terrifying, or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was, and is God," Prof. Lewis concludes.
Precious One, Jesus is the only One you can trust with your life and you can assuredly experience true peace and an in-filling of the void within. He is the one who must reside at the core of your being for you to be complete and capable of reaching your full potential.
