TOPIC: STRETCH OUT YOUR HAND

THEME SCRIPTURE: “And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.” — Mark 3:5 (KJV)

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. Why is it important to take a step you couldn't take before to enable faith work?

In the synagogue one Sabbath, a man with a withered hand sat quietly, perhaps hoping to go unnoticed. His condition wasn’t life-threatening, but it was limiting. He had likely grown used to living with what he lacked—until Jesus called him out: “Stand up in front of everyone… Stretch out your hand.” (Mark 3:3, 5).

That moment demanded vulnerability. To stretch out what was shriveled meant exposing weakness. Yet the man obeyed, and in obedience, healing flowed.

What was once lifeless became whole in the open space of faith.

Jesus didn’t tell him to stretch out his strong hand, but the broken one. God often asks us to extend precisely what we’ve been hiding. When we dare to expose our limitations to Him, grace meets us there. As A.W. Tozer wrote, “Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.”

Like the man in the synagogue, Moses also faced an impossible moment when God asked, “What is that in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2). It was only a staff—ordinary, unimpressive— yet when surrendered to God, it became an instrument of power.

What matters isn’t what’s in your hand, but whose hand you place it in.

Beloved, what is in your hand? How can we place those things in our hands into that of God's?

Practical Steps

  1. Identify What’s Withered. What area of your life feels powerless—your confidence, hope, or obedience? Name it before God.
  1. Expose It to Christ. Stop concealing what’s broken. Bring it into the light of His presence through honest prayer.
  1. Act on His Word. Even if it feels small or painful, obey the instruction He gives you today.

Give Glory, Not Excuses. As healing comes—whether instantly or gradually—let gratitude replace self-protection.

Faith is not passive belief but active surrender. It stretches. It risks. It trusts that God’s command carries creative power. When Christ says “stretch,” He gives strength to do it. As Augustine declared, “The God who created you without you will not save you without you.” Our part is obedience; His part is transformation.

Remain blessed

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

  1. What “withered hand” in your life might God be asking you to stretch toward Him?
  1. How does obedience reveal your trust more than your words do?
  1. Where might fear of exposure be keeping you from experiencing restoration?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You see the hidden, withered places of my life. I receive Your help to trust You enough to stretch them out before You. I receive the courage to act on Your word even when I feel weak or exposed. Heal what is broken and strengthen my faith through obedience. My life is going to testify of Your restoring power. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
