TOPIC: THE BIBLE'S INDUBITABILITY
THEME SCRIPTURE: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” – Romans 1:16
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Why did Paul assert that he is not ashamed of the gospel?
- Is the Word of God, as contained in the Bibile the true Word of God?
The Bible's authenticity and status as God's Word have been questioned throughout history, and increasingly recently. Even Christians are questioning the Bible's authenticity due to these critiques. The Bible's geographical and linguistic characteristics, as well as its diverse group of eyewitnesses and historians, support its credibility as the Word of God. It contains authentic historical documents written in Asia, Africa, and Europe. They were written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic, supported by archaeological findings. It was written over 1,500 years by over 40 authors from various fields and covers a wide range of topics.
Paul, in his first epistle to the Romans, confidently stated, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16)." This emphatic proclamation was likely meant to address Roman objections to the Bible as God’s Word. He encourages Roman Christians to reject unbelievers' doubts and shame about the gospel and hold onto the Bible as God's Word. People believe in Christ Jesus and experience ‘the new birth’ and remarkable transformation through the Word of God. To have faith in the Holy Scriptures of the Bible is to have faith in Christ Jesus, who is the very Word of God.
Dearly beloved, you became a Christian by responding through grace to the transformative power of the Word of God. Before Jesus returns, attacks on the Bible's authenticity will continue, but they can never discredit it. A careful study of the Bible shows that there are no gaps, contradictions, or falsehoods and that all objections disappear in the presence of Bible truth. Never give a second thought to the deceptions purporting to expose the Bible’s inconsistencies. Instead, study the Bible the more.
Luke, in his Gospel, had this to say: Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us (Luke 1:1-2). Let the Bible be your close compasnion. Read it every day and be comforted that you can trust and rely on the Bible as the most accurate and authentic expression of God's Word. God bless you.
