TOPIC: YOUR HELP COMES FROM GOD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”– Psalm 121:1-2
PREPARATORY QUESTION:
- Who do you look up to in this life?
Christians worldwide aren't immune to challenges around the globe. Life is getting harder due to the deteriorating global economy. Many have lost their jobs, salaries are low, and three meals a day are a luxury for many. Education cost is another issue. In emergencies, many of our nations' facilities fail due to broken systems and structures. It is difficult to depend on a system that is prone to failure.
One of the most encouraging Psalms for Christians in our journey here is today's scripture focus. The style and tone suggest the psalmist needed help and assurance in this life.
He asks, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help?” He may have wondered aloud where relief would come from, expressing uncertainty about the future or his current need. "My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth," he says, finding the greatest comfort. He describes how the Creator of heaven and earth provides this vital relief from life's troubles. He who keeps you will not slumber…The LORD is your keeper…The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. This short Psalm uses "keep" six times to confirm God's security.
Beloved in Christ Jesus, this season may be the most difficult of your life. Multiple heartbreaking events may be occurring one after the other. Providing for yourself and your family daily seems impossible. Economic hardship may be affecting you greatly. Relief may have eluded you several times, and you've cried over and over.
Jesus never promised the Christian life would be easy; He promised that He’ll be there to help.
The maker of heaven and earth is your Lord. If he created the universe, he owns it. He alone can provide the relief and comfort you need in any situation. You can trust him to protect you from enemy attacks. Be assured that the Lord will keep you from evil and protect your life. God wants you to trust him and look to him for relief and protection in life.
You can trust the Lord to protect and provide in a world falling apart.
The Christian who knows the maker of heaven is his Lord has a blessed assurance. You are assured, “The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” Hallelujah!
