TOPIC: PROCESSING THE SPIRITUAL WITH THE HUMAN MIND
THEME SCRIPTURE: “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” — John 3:4
PREPARATORY QUESTION
1. Can the human appreciate and process adequately spiritual realities?
From our theme scripture, Nicodemus responds to Jesus with confusion. He takes a spiritual statement and filters it through natural reasoning—and it doesn’t make sense. His question is not unreasonable; it reveals the limits of human understanding when faced with divine truth.
We often do the same. When God speaks about transformation, surrender, or renewal, we instinctively try to interpret it within familiar categories. We look for processes we can map, steps we can control, outcomes we can predict. But spiritual reality does not always fit into those frameworks.
Nicodemus’ question exposes an important tension: the gap between what God is doing and what we can fully grasp. Instead of leaning into mystery, he retreats into literal interpretation. It is a subtle form of resistance—not outright rejection, but a reluctance to move beyond what feels explainable.
There are moments when God’s work in your life will not immediately make sense. You may feel prompted to change direction, release something important, or trust in ways that defy your logic. The temptation is to dismiss these moments because they do not align with what you understand.
Beloved, confusion is not a barrier to spiritual growth—it can be the starting point. What matters is how you respond to it. Do you allow uncertainty to close you off, or does it push you to seek deeper clarity from God?
Nicodemus stays in the conversation. Even in misunderstanding, he does not walk away. That willingness to remain engaged creates space for further revelation.
Key Takeaway
Spiritual growth often begins where human understanding ends—stay open even when you don’t fully grasp what God is doing in you, with you and for you.
Today, remind yourself this as you go through the day: You do not need to have everything figured out to move forward with God. But you do need to remain open, especially when God’s ways challenge your assumptions.
Remain blessed.

PRAYER
Lord, when I do not understand, help me not to withdraw. Teach me to trust beyond my reasoning and remain open to Your work. Give me patience in the unknown and a willingness to follow even without full clarity. Lead me deeper into truth as I walk with You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
