TOPIC: WHEN JESUS DEMANDS TOO MUCH
THEME SCRIPTURE: "Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you." — John 6:53
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- By the theme Scripture, is Jesus saying that we have to really drink His blood—is it possible?
There are moments when Jesus’ words confront us rather than comfort us. In John 6, He speaks in a way that unsettles His listeners: “Eat my flesh… drink my blood.” It sounds extreme, even offensive. Many who once followed Him decide this is too much— and walk away.
This passage exposes a deeper truth: faith is not just about agreeing with what makes sense. It’s about trusting the One who speaks, even when we don’t fully understand.
The crowd heard Jesus but filtered His words through human logic and limits. They reduced a spiritual invitation to a literal impossibility—and missed the life He was offering.
Jesus wasn’t speaking about physical consumption, but about complete dependence, surrender, and union with Him. To “feed” on Him is to draw your life, identity, and hope entirely from Him.
The dividing line wasn’t intelligence—it was trust. Trust in the One whose words are spirit and life. In the absence of clarity, can you still trust the person of Jesus Christ?
Beloved, some of Jesus' followers left at the hearing of this. A few stayed.
There will be times when following Jesus feels costly. When His words challenge your preferences, your habits, or your sense of control. In those moments, the question is not “Do I fully get this?” but “Do I trust Him enough to stay?”
Because walking away doesn’t lead to clarity— *it leads to emptiness*. Only Jesus holds the words that give life.
Key Takeaway
Faith deepens not when everything makes sense, but when you choose to stay with Jesus anyway.
Precious one, as you go through the day, make up your mind to stay with Jesus even when there's no clarity from Him.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
- What teachings of Jesus do I find hardest to accept or live out?
- When challenged, do I tend to question God—or withdraw from Him?
- What would it look like for me to “feed” on Jesus daily in a practical way?
PRAYER
Lord, when Your words stretch me beyond what I understand, give me a heart that trusts rather than withdraws. Help me depend on You fully, not partially. Strengthen my faith to remain with You, even when it feels difficult. Shape my desires so that I seek life in You above all else. Amen.
