TOPIC: THE SPLENDOR OF THE LIVING GOD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.” — Jeremiah 10:10 NKJV
PREPARATORY QUESTION
1. How do you see God, and how should men see the living God?
Jeremiah lifts our gaze from lifeless idols to the radiant majesty of the true God: “But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King” (Jer 10:10). Against the backdrop of mute wood and hammered gold, the prophet declares the shocking reality—God is alive. He speaks, moves, rules, and sustains creation by His power.
Idolatry always shrinks God in its view. It reduces His glory to something we can manage, predict, or possess. But the living God will not be contained.
He thunders over the nations, commands the storm, and holds history in His hands. Every idol must fall before His presence.
In a world obsessed with human achievement, Jeremiah’s words are a holy interruption. Our age worships progress, knowledge, money, and influence as if they were eternal. Yet every empire of human pride will crumble; only God remains. As A.W. Tozer wrote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us”. A small view of God leads to small faith—and to large idols.
To know God as living is to awaken again to wonder. The One who “made the earth by His power” (Jer 10:12) is not distant. He is nearer to His creation.
In Christ, this Creator stooped low, took on flesh, and walked among us. Jesus is not a symbol of life— He is Life itself (John 14:6). The same voice that called galaxies into being now calls your name in love.
The question is not whether we will worship, but whom. The idols of our age demand constant attention yet give no peace. But those who worship the living God find rest in His sovereignty and joy in His presence. As the Puritan Thomas Watson said, “God is a living spring; if we drink of Him, we shall never thirst again”.
Precious one, how can we practically keep our gaze on the splendor of the living God?
- Recenter your awe. Begin and end your day by declaring one truth about God’s greatness aloud. Let worship expand your view of Him.
- Refuse imitation. When tempted to chase recognition, wealth, or control, pause and ask: “Would this pursuit still matter if Jesus were visibly standing next to me?”
- Celebrate His creation. Step outside, observe nature, and remind yourself that the same God who sustains the stars sustains you.
Beloved, “The nearer a soul draws to God, the larger He becomes”. Deepen your relationship with God, and you will enjoy the beauty of His holiness. Draw nigh to Him, and idols will flee from you.
Remain blessed.
