TOPIC: TRANSFORMATION AT THE TABLE

THEME SCRIPTURE:  “But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor…’” — Luke 19:8 (NIV)

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Can God transform the worst and corrupt of men?
  2. Can God transform you, too?

When Jesus entered Zacchaeus’s home, He wasn’t just accepting hospitality—He was bringing transformation. In one day, a tax collector notorious for corruption became a man of radical repentance and generosity. Why? Because true salvation doesn’t just forgive sins— it changes hearts.

Beloved, if a man is transformed, what are some of the signs of his transformation?

  1. The Fruit of Encounter.

Zacchaeus didn't make changes to impress Jesus. He responded to grace. Theologian John Calvin wrote, “Faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is never alone”. Saving faith is always accompanied by visible fruit. Zacchaeus’s restitution wasn’t a religious performance— it was proof that he’d been made new.

  1. From Greed to Generosity.

The man who once defrauded others now gives generously. Grace broke the chains of materialism, greed, and selfishness

St. John Chrysostom observed, “The rich man is not one who has much, but one who gives much. For what he gives away remains his forever.”

In the presence of Jesus, Zacchaeus learned that life isn’t measured by possessions, but by what’s surrendered.

  1. Public Confession, Personal Change.

Zacchaeus didn’t wait for privacy to express his change— he stood up and declared it openly. His public life had been marked by corruption; now, his repentance was just as visible. Transformation isn't just internal— it bears witness. It humbles the proud, restores the broken, and points others to Christ.

This moment in Zacchaeus' life was not about guilt; it was about grace that empowered change.

And Jesus’s response says it all: “Today salvation has come to this house”. Not because Zacchaeus bought it, but because he received it—and allowed it to reshape his life.

Precious one, grace changes more than status—it changes direction. Like Zacchaeus, when Jesus dines with us, everything shifts. Let Him in—and watch how your story turns into testimony.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. What visible fruit in your life reflects that Jesus has entered your heart?
  2. Is there anything you need to make right with others as a result of God’s work in you?
  3. How can your generosity testify to the grace you’ve received?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for not only forgiving me but for changing me. From today, my life reflects the power of Your grace—not only in word, but in deed. Teach me to live with open hands, open heart, and a bold witness. I receive your help to surrender anything that stands between me and full obedience. Let my transformation point others to You. Glory to God. Amen.
