TOPIC: CHRIST THE ONLY FOUNDATION

THEME SCRIPTURE: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 3:11 (NIV)

PREPARATORY QUESTION

  1. Is Christ the only foundation?
  2. How should this truth inform us in the pursuit of our calling?

Foundations matter. A house built on sand will collapse in storms, no matter how beautiful its exterior. In the same way, a life—or ministry—built on anything other than Christ cannot stand the test of time or eternity.

Paul writes to the Corinthians as a wise master builder, warning them to examine not just what they build, but how and on what they build. Christ alone is the sure foundation. Everything else—status, personality, success, even religious activity—is unstable.

We may fool others, even ourselves, for a time. But the Day will come when the fire of God’s judgment will reveal what’s real; what we have truly built (1 Cor. 3:13).

What does it mean to build on Christ? It means that our identity, purpose, and values are rooted in who He is and what He has done. It means obeying His Word, trusting His ways, and relying on His Spirit. According to Tertullian, “Christians are made, not born”. We are formed by our daily choices to align our lives with the gospel.

Precious one, Apostle Paul warns that each person’s work will be revealed by God's fire. Gold, silver, and costly stones survive fire; wood, hay, and straw do not. The test is not of quantity, but of quality. What we build—our words, motives, service—must reflect Christ’s character.

Even good-looking ministries can be built on pride, performance, or ambition. Only what is done through Him and for Him will last.

What then must we do if we are going to build on the sure foundation?

  1. Check your motives. Why are you doing what you do—for applause or obedience?
  2. Build with integrity. Truth, humility, faith, and love are the materials that endure.
  3. Stay rooted in Scripture. Jesus is revealed in the Word. Let it shape all you build.
  4. Endure fire with hope. Even when God’s refining is painful, it purifies your work for His glory.

Beloved, Jesus is coming again. He is coming quickly. His reward is with Him, to give to every man according as his work shall be. Today, take time to examine your own self whether you are building on a sure foundation.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

1. What foundation am I really building my life on?

2. Are there areas of my life built more on self than on Christ?

3. What would remain if all I’ve done were tested by fire?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the only true foundation. Forgive me for building on pride, fear, or human praise. Teach me to build what lasts—by Your Word, in Your Spirit, and for Your glory. Refine my heart and work, so that in the end, I may stand and not be ashamed. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
