THEME: DISCERNMENT IN CONVERSATION
THEME SCRIPTURE: "A time to keep silence, and a time to speak." — Ecclesiastes 3:7 (ESV)
PREPARATORY QUESTION
1. Is silence always golden?
One of the most overlooked signs of spiritual maturity is knowing when to speak and when to remain silent. Discernment in conversation isn't just a matter of timing— it’s a mark of wisdom and grace.
Jesus was the perfect model of this. Before Pilate, He answered little. Before the woman caught in adultery, He first stooped to write in silence. But when truth needed to be spoken—whether in parables to the crowds or rebuke to the Pharisees— He did not hold back.
Beloved, Jesus' silence was never weakness, and His words were never wasted.
Saint Augustine wrote, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.” But silence is not always golden—sometimes, it’s cowardice. At other times, words spoken without thought can wound deeply.
The Spirit of God gives us discernment: when to encourage, when to challenge, when to speak truth, and when to simply listen.
Precious one, Proverbs 10:19 warns, “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” Your words carry power. James says the tongue is like a spark that can set a whole forest ablaze (James 3:5–6). But the same tongue, under the control of the Spirit, can speak life, healing, and hope.
Ask yourself always before speaking: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Sometimes, silence is the more powerful statement. Other times, bold truth in love is the need of the hour. Discern whenever you want to speak.
Remain blessed.

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. Are you quick to speak or quick to listen?
2. Have your words recently built someone up—or torn them down?
3. Are you willing to remain silent when it honors God more than speaking?.
PRAYER
Lord, bridle my tongue and guide my speech. Teach me the wisdom of silence and the courage of timely truth. Let my words be seasoned with grace, my silences filled with love, and my conversations led by Your Spirit, in Jesus' precious name. Hallelujah!
