TOPIC: BEHOLD, I STAND AT THE DOOR
THEME SCRIPTURE: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." — Revelation 3:20 (ESV)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Which door is Jesus standing and knocking at, and why is this knocking important?
After rebuking the lukewarm and spiritually blind Laodicean church, Christ does something remarkable—He extends an invitation. He stands at the door and knocks. The King of Glory, who has every right to judge and depart, instead waits patiently to be invited in. This is grace in its most personal form: an appeal to relationship, not ritual.
Jesus does not force entry. He calls. He knocks. He waits.
The intimacy of this offer is astounding— “I will come in... and eat with him.” In the ancient world, shared meals symbolized deep fellowship, reconciliation, and covenant. Christ wants more than your belief— He wants your communion.
But the door must be opened from within. As Chrysostom noted, “Christ never forces His way into a soul. He makes Himself known, and the soul must yield.” The tragedy of Laodicea was that Christ was outside His own church, uninvited.
There are many who are called Christians, but Christ is outside their hearts. He is not living in them, and neither is He living through them.
To “ hear His voice” and “ open the door” is the call of daily discipleship. It is not a one-time decision, but a continual posture of humility, attentiveness, and surrender. Those who hear and respond are promised personal fellowship with the risen Christ.
To the faithful: keep the door open. Cultivate the kind of life where Christ is not a guest, but a resident. Feed daily on His Word, abide in prayer, and treasure His presence. To the complacent: He is still knocking. The time to open the door is now, not when convenience aligns with our interests or emotions stir, but now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Fellowship with Christ is the greatest joy you could ever know—don’t delay it.
He wants to come in today; open the door of your heart. And all dryness of spirit and weariness of soul will cease. He stands at the door.
God bless you more.

Lord Jesus, I hear Your voice today. Forgive me for every moment I’ve left the door closed. I open my heart to You. Come in and dine with me. Your presence is my greatest treasure and my constant companion. In Jesus' precious name. Amen.
