TOPIC: FLEEING THE SNARE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. How do good people succumb to temptations?
King David’s glance from his rooftop spiraled into adultery, deception, and murder (2 Samuel 11:2-4). What began as a moment of curiosity became a lifetime of regret. Temptation often masquerades as harmless, but it lingers, fueling its power. David ignored the “way out” God provided— flight. Instead, he entertained lust, then acted on it.
His story warns: Sin’s consequences outlive its fleeting pleasure. It is very expensive to linger in the face of temptation.
Let's ask this: "Where does temptation begin?"
Temptation thrives in isolation and incremental compromise. Like David, we justify small compromises— “I’m just looking”—until desire overrides conviction. Puritan theologian John Owen warned, “Be killing sin when it shows up, or it will be killing you.” There are too many temptations around us today, but the battle begins in the mind; victory starts with surrender to Christ’s strength. And with these steps of faith, victory can be secured at all times:
First, in the face of temptation, Flee Immediately: Don’t negotiate.
When Joseph fled Potiphar’s wife (Gen 39:12), he didn’t debate—he ran. It was also strategic, not because of fear. Fleeing from temptations is no sign of weakness, beloved. Pray daily: “Lord, make me alert to temptation’s traps and swift to flee.”
Secondly, Arm Yourself with Truth. Memorize Scripture that targets your weakness.
Struggling with lust? Meditate on Job 31:1: “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.”
Lastly, Confess and Connect: Share your battles with a trusted believer.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “Sin demands to have a man by himself… In confession, the light of the Gospel breaks into that darkness.”
Precious one, temptations are real, and it is not worth entertaining them.
Charles Spurgeon said, “He who does not hate the egg of sin will never crush the serpent.” Temptation’s “sweetness” is a lie; true freedom lies in fleeing to the One who satisfies. Like David, we may fall—but through Christ, we rise again (Psalm 37:24). Flee the snares of temptation.
Remain blessed.

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
1. How have you learnt from your past temptations?
2. How cautious are you with temptations?
PRAYER
Father, I admit my weakness without you. When temptation whispers, give me courage to run—not toward escape, but toward You. Renew my mind with Your Word, and surround me with those who will steer me back to grace. Teach me to trust Your timing, not my cravings. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
