TOPIC: A LIFE OF HONOR

THEME SCRIPTURE: "That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor" 1 Thessalonians 4:4

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. What is honor?
  1. How can a Christian walk in honor?
  1. Why do some Christians choose to walk in dishonor?
  1. Are you walking in dishonor?

What is honor, you may ask? Our theme scripture says that “every one of you should know how to possess his vessel (or body) in sanctification and honor”. If a child of God will know “the how” (or means) to possess his vessel in honor he must first know what honor is.

Honor, as used in our theme scripture means – value (or the money paid), esteem (something especially of the highest degree) or to hold something with dignity.

Hence our theme scripture is telling us that everyone should know how to conduct himself in a manner that indicates that we are valuable or highly esteemed and extremely precious. We are to present ourselves as people of dignity; people of high value. The question then is - how shall we do this? Let us consider the following:

  • Knowing and Accepting: that we are bought with a price (1 Cor 6:20). See, every believer is as valuable as the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. The blood of Jesus is priceless. This is the value that God gave to redeem us from death. Learn to call yourself “Precious One” because you’re too precious, far above any price tag. You are worth 'divine blood'.
  • Learn to Talk and Act: in line with your dignity or value. For instance, there is a way a king behaves or an educated person behaves. Such that if a king behaves in a way that is not kingly we all get disappointed and the king loses value in our eyes. The same applies to Christians. The world expects high standards from us because we have taken on a life of dignity– the way we talk, do business, treat people, dress, etc.

So let us learn to talk with grace (Eph 4:29), dress decently, do clean business, treat every person with respect and value, etc. This is honorable to do.

  • Don’t Allow: people to treat you less than who you are. Some people like to treat others as trash to feel important. Always let people who treat you less know that you know who you are – YOU ARE PRECIOUS. Let people around you know this is the way you want them to talk to you, and that they can’t disrespect you. Some Christians are fearful to correct those who manhandle them or disrespect them. Take pride in the fact that you have been bought at a price only 'divine blood' could afford.

Precious One, God gets excited when He sees us walking in who we are, and what we have become in Him.

Jesus has paid the price to make you who you are in God. The least you can do is to walk in the light of what you have become. From today going forward, you are thinking, talking and living in honor because you are Precious. Glory to Jesus.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Which areas of your life do you see the need to change to conform to honor and who you are in Christ Jesus?

CONFESSION

Thank you Precious Father for what you have made in Christ. I affirm this day that I am priceless and precious in your eyes. I choose to walk in dignity and honor because this is the life I have received in Christ. I always do the right thing, honoring all men and women. My word is like a sceptre of power that conquers immediately after it is spoken. My words bring healing, peace and comfort to all. Glory to God!
