TOPIC: EXCUSES: I AM INCAPABLE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.” – Exodus 3:11-12
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Did Moses see what God was calling him to as daunting a task?
Excuses are the clutches of the uncommitted, and no one has done anything meaningful with excuses. A man who builds his future with excuses is like sowing the wind. He will definitely reap the whirlwind.
Moses is here before God. His mandate as God intended for his life has been unveiled before him: “Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (Exo 3:10). The task sounded daunting, and yeah, mathematically, it was. Moses must have wondered, “The children of Israel have multiplied, numbering over seven hundred thousand. Who am I to bring such a people out of Egypt?” Further, the might of Pharaoh is not one with which he can contend.
So he paraded excuses before God why he was a wrong choice to be sent to Egypt.
First, Moses claimed he could not do the job, per our theme scripture. Did not Moses kill an Egyptian taskmaster because he could not stand the Israelites' plight in his royal days? Where is his confidence now? Was he saying he knew himself better than God? Precious one, like Moses, we are all raised to look at things mathematically. Such that he who has more numbers is deemed to have an advantage, and he who has more money is deemed the richest or financially strong. But this is not so when you walk with God. Moses considered how he would stand and fight for independence for the people of Israel alone. ‘What is special about me?’ he might have wondered.
Beloved, you don’t need to be special in yourself because the special one is in you. You don’t need to be strong because greater is He who is with you (1 John 4:4).
You don’t need to be capable because it will not be by might or by power, but by His Spirit (Zech 4:6). God may be directing you in a particular direction you never dreamed of. It may be humanly daunting. Don’t panic. But be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6-7). As God replied to Moses, “Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be a token to you, that I have sent you…” (Exo 3:12), so it shall be for you. And remember: “For with God (jointly working with Him), all things are possible.”
David knew this truth, and he was not afraid of Goliath. Joshua and Caleb knew there was no way to lose with God on your side.
Therefore, they considered Canaan's giants bread when their colleagues saw themselves as grasshoppers. Beloved, the Holy Spirit's presence in you makes you capable of all things. Capable enough to climb mountains that will not move and cross rivers that will not disappear. Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? Then throw away your excuses and move that mountain. Remain blessed.
