TOPIC: FOR WITH GOD

THEME SCRIPTURE: “For with God nothing shall be impossible” – Luke 1:37

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. What does it mean by "For with God"...?

In 1984, the New York Marathon saw 1,400 participants. The marathon was a 26-mile stretch through the boroughs of New York City. It is interesting to note that not everyone finished the course. The dropout rate far exceeds the number of people who stayed in the race to the end. Over the years, the winners of the marathon have taken between two and three hours to complete the race. During the year 1984, the marathon saw the participation of Linda Down, and she was the last person to complete the race.

It took her eleven hours to get to the finish line. This was because she had cerebral palsy, and she had to run with the help of clutches.

When Linda was approached and asked by an interviewer why she even participated in the race, Linda had this to say: “We are living in a time where people are giving up in the face of little challenges and obstacles. I therefore decided to do this race to inspire others and to let them know that they can attempt and accomplish seemingly impossible things.” Then she added, “However, I must say that the last eleven miles were an act of God.” The interviewer then asked her, “What do you mean by ‘an act of God’?” Linda replied, “When I was left with eleven miles to go, I knew my own strength was gone. I didn’t have any more. Then I whispered, ‘Lord, help me’ and I finished this race on His borrowed strength.

Mary received an unusual visitation. An angel came to her to announce that she was going to conceive and have a baby without a man (Luke 1:31). This angel indicated to Mary that the Holy Ghost was going to come upon her to make this happen (Luke 1:35). “And behold, your cousin Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren”, the angel added.

Can a virgin conceive? Can the barren bring forth? Beloved, for with God nothing is impossible.

Working together [or jointly] with God, precious one, all things are possible. Teaming up with God, nothing shall be impossible. If you can hand over your weakness to Him, God is able to endow you with His strength. If you can recognise Him, call on Him, and hand over to Him, God is able to finish what you couldn’t accomplish and make possible what you’ve been struggling with all these years. Is it an addiction?

You might have tried what you knew to do. It is time to invite God into the situation.

Are you struggling with your dreams and aspirations? It is because you have been doing it all alone. It is time to involve God. Are you tired of your marriage and the way things have turned out? He gives strength to the weary and power to the faint. Team up with God. Work with God—with His resources and with wisdom—and see the salvation of the Lord. With God, truly, nothing shall be impossible for you. Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Don’t you think you need God’s help in every aspect of your life?
  2. How are you employing or going to employ God’s help for your life?

PRAYER

Precious Holy Spirit, you are the vine. I am a branch. As the branch can do nothing except it abides in the vine so I know I can do nothing without you. I yield my whole being, plans and desires unto you. I receive your guidance, leadership and your assistance in everything I do henceforth, in Jesus’ precious name. Hallelujah!
