TOPIC: OPEN THE HOLY BIBLE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.” – Joshua 1:8
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Which book are we to make sure that the content does not depart out of our mouths?
A story is told of a doctor who received a desperate call to come and attend to the wife of a farmer who was desperately ill. This doctor had a familiar black bag he takes with him to see all his patients. This doctor arrived with his nurse and they were ushered upstairs where the farmer’s wife lay. Downstairs, the farmer waited patiently with the rest of his family anxiously. Not too long, the doctor came downstairs worriedly and requested for a screwdriver. After some few minutes the nurse also came nervously and requested for a can opener. Then again the doctor came, after couple of minutes, visibly upset and requested for a hammer and a chisel. This time, the farmer could not contain himself and asked, “Doc, what on earth is going on with my wife?” The doctor replied, “Sir, I don’t know yet but I can’t just get my black bag opened.”
Precious one, one of the reason why the word of God is not alive in many people’s lives is because they have not yet opened the bible.
Joshua is about to take a journey that will define the life and the history of his people, the Israelites, for good. God reminded him of the keys he needed to make his ways (plans, programs and approaches) prosperous and secure good success. The keys are meditation and confession. Meditation releases the power in God’s word into your spirit, emboldening you to act on it. We become conscious of the spiritual provisions and instructions, and are able to observe to do (obey) God’s word if we meditate on it day and night. Further, our confessions daily must be in consonant with the oracles of God. Exactly as the writer of Hebrews gives us an example saying, “For He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’. So that we may boldly say, ‘The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me’ (Heb 13:5-6).”
Dearly beloved, the critical question is this: how can God’s people in need of good success meditate on, and confess the truths of God's word if they do not open the Bible to search it?
How is this possible? How can you know that God wants you to have success in your endeavors, and not just success but ‘good’ success without opening the Bible? Today, we live a busy and a ‘bullet speed’ lives such that we have no time to open that Bible. We are deceived to think that progress is by speed and success is by strength. But David was wise to know better and therefore he said, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” (Ps 119:105) and Hannah, having brought forth by the word of God confessed, “…by strength shall no man prevail” (1 Sam 2:9).
Men and women who have no Bible or have never read it for a while must be pitied. As fishes are caught by cruel nets so are men who are not guided by God’s word.
In the day of adversity, their lives become miserable because they have nothing to hold on. Precious one, you cannot bypass God’s word and have meaningful success in this life, and you cannot possess God’s word without opening the Bible to study the Holy Scriptures. So, what are you going to do now since you want good success? First, admit your need for God’s word. Secondly, tell yourself you are going to be intentional about searching and studying the Holy Scriptures. Thirdly, create a time you will dedicate to God and the study of His word. Finally, go for God's word daily; make it your lifestyle. If you do this, beloved, you will never be barren or unfruitful in this life. Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- How well are you studying your Bible?
- Do you have delight for God and His word?
CONFESSION
Precious Father, your words are spirit and life. I confess that my delight is in the law of the Lord and I choose to meditate on God’s word day and night. Therefore am I like a tree planted by the rivers of waters, bearing fruits in my season. My leaves do not wither and whatever I do prospers. Hallelujah
