TOPIC: BE PATIENT

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Be patient, therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and the latter rain.” – James 5:7

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Why must we be patient till the coming of our Lord Jesus?
  2. How can we build strength to endure and stand true to the end?

Today, James admonishes us to be patient, using the farmer's experience. Every farmer knows that once he puts the seed in the ground, he will need to wait for it to germinate, grow, flower, and then begin to bear fruit. He must wait for the rain (both the early and the latter rain). During the time of waiting, the farmer only works hard and goes home empty-handed. He fertilizes the plants, keeps weeds under control, and prunes the young plants. He knows very well that he cannot force the plants to jump the process. When the harvest finally comes, he smiles the biggest. His seeds bring forth 30 folds, 60 folds, and 100 folds.

Our Christian life is a growth process from being a baby to an infant to full maturity in the things of God (Heb 5:14) and patience is required to go through the process so that we may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing (James 1:4).

Precious one, be patient until the coming of our Lord (Jam 5:8). Establish your hearts because the coming of the Lord draws near. Jesus is coming again, and He is at the door. Sometimes cynics and scoffers make fun of the coming of the Lord, saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” (2 Pet 3:4). In the days of Noah, scoffers were there, and they mocked the prophet. Noah waited patiently for 120 years, and truly, God’s word came to pass. The flood swept away all those who did not believe or enter the ark. The heaven and earth that exist today, beloved, are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction, when all men who lived ungodlily shall perish (2 Pet 3:7).

Know this also: God wants you to be patient because He is also patient.

Contrary to men’s perspective, the Lord is not late with His promises, including His return, as some measure lateness. But because He desires all to come to repentance and none to perish, God’s loving patience is enduring to bring us all unto Himself.

Beloved, be patient, and be blessed (James 5:11). We all count them blessed those who have endured.

The likes of Job and the glory of his later end. In our day, iniquity abounds and chaos rules.  It seems wicked men prosper, and righteousness is no longer regarded. The temptation to join the bandwagon of the ungodly is there, but be patient and see the salvation of the Lord. In suffering and affliction, be patient and wait on the Lord. Through prayer and meditation on the word of God, we can tap into God’s assurances and His strength to wait patiently for His perfect timing. Lift up your eyes, beloved. Our redemption draws near. So be patient until the end. God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Precious One, do you look forward to the coming of the Lord?
  2. How patient are you, and how well are you able to wait on God till He comes through for you?

CONFESSION

Precious Father, I receive grace to continue this walk of faith in you, with you and for you. I confess that my heart is ablaze and my zeal is kindled. I am following the example of those who fully received what God promised them because of their strong faith and patient endurance. Hallelujah!
