TOPIC: GRACE IS FREE

THEME SCRIPTURE:  “Jesus answered them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’” —Luke 5:31–32

PREPARATORY QUESTION

  1. Have you merely admired God's grace, or has it brought you to genuine repentance?

Grace is one of the most celebrated words in the Christian faith—and one of the most misunderstood. Many want forgiveness without repentance, salvation without surrender, and heaven without holiness. But Jesus never offered grace as permission to remain unchanged.

When Jesus said He came to call sinners, He did not stop there. He added two words that many people conveniently ignore: "to repentance." Christ does not simply rescue people from the penalty of sin; He rescues them from the power and practice of sin.

Repentance is not feeling bad because you were caught. It is not shedding emotional tears or making temporary promises. Repentance is a decisive change of heart that produces a changed direction of life. It is turning away from sin because you have turned toward Christ.

This truth is uncomfortable because it confronts the religion of appearances. You can attend church, know Scripture, serve faithfully, and still resist repentance. The Pharisees looked righteous, but they refused the Great Physician because they would not admit they were sick.

Do not deceive yourself by confusing religious activity with spiritual transformation. A person who has truly encountered Christ cannot remain comfortable with the sin that nailed Him to the cross. Grace does not lower God's standard; it gives us the power to pursue it.

The evidence of saving grace is not perfection but a growing hatred for sin and an increasing love for Christ. The believer stumbles, but he does not settle. He falls, but he does not make peace with rebellion. God's grace continually calls him back to obedience.

Key Takeaway

Saving grace always produces genuine repentance. If your life remains unchanged, you should examine whether you have truly responded to Christ.

Today, stop defending the very sins Christ died to destroy. Bring them into His light; you're well able. The Savior who forgives is also the Lord who transforms. Receive His amazing grace freely and be made whole.

God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

  1. Is there any sin I continue to excuse instead of repenting from?
  2. Has God's grace made me more serious about holiness or more casual about sin?
  3. What practical step of obedience is Christ calling me to take today?

PRAYER

Father, keep me from treating Your grace cheaply. Search my heart and expose every area where I have resisted repentance. Give me the humility to confess my sin, the courage to forsake it, and the strength to walk in obedience. May my life reflect the transforming power of Your grace and bring glory to Christ. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
