TOPIC: GREATNESS THROUGH SERVANTHOOD

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. Do you want to be great, or do you want to be useful to God?

 

Jesus redefines greatness in a way that strips it of ego.

In the world’s system, greatness is measured by who serves you, who reports to you, and who recognizes you. In the Kingdom, greatness is measured by who you are willing to serve when there is nothing to gain.

The paradox is direct: the way up is down. Authority is not seized—it is surrendered into service.

Jesus does not merely teach this principle; He embodies it. The Son of Man, the only one with rightful status to be served, chooses service instead. Not occasionally, but as identity.

This confronts ambition at its root. Ambition is not wrong, but it must be purified. When ambition is detached from servanthood, it becomes domination. When it is shaped by Christ, it becomes usefulness.

Many people want influence without inconvenience. But servanthood is inconvenient by design. It requires interruption, humility, and attention to needs that do not benefit your image.

True service is not selective. It is not performed when convenient or visible. It is expressed when there is no applause and no advantage.

This is where Kingdom authority is formed—not in public recognition, but in private obedience.

The paradox continues: the more you serve in obscurity, the more God can trust you with visibility. But visibility is never the goal; trustworthiness is.

Jesus connects greatness not to position, but to posture. “Slave of all” is not identity degradation—it is ego death. It is the removal of entitlement to be above others.

PRAYER

Lord, purify my desire for greatness. Remove pride from my ambition and teach me the way of service. Make me faithful in hidden places so I can be trusted in greater ones. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
