TOPIC: THE PRIORITY THAT SUSTAINS YOUR CALLING

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Then we can spend our time in prayer and preaching and teaching the word.” — Acts 6:4

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. What consistently receives your best time and attention each day?

The early church was growing rapidly, and with growth came increasing demands. The apostles recognized that while every need mattered, not every responsibility belonged to them. Rather than becoming consumed by administrative duties, they wisely delegated those tasks so they could remain devoted to prayer and the ministry of God’s Word. Their decision was not an escape from service but a commitment to their God-given assignment.

Prayer is not simply preparation for ministry—it is ministry. It aligns our hearts with God’s purposes, sharpens our discernment, and gives us the strength to serve faithfully. Andrew Murray likened prayer to a farmer’s labor: a harvest never appears without patient effort. Likewise, a fruitful spiritual life is cultivated through consistent communion with God.

Many distractions today compete for our attention. Some are necessary, others are merely urgent. Wisdom is found in discerning the difference. A life that neglects prayer may remain busy, but it risks becoming spiritually ineffective.Time spent in God’s presence is never wasted; it is an investment that shapes both our character and our impact.

When prayer becomes your highest priority, your work flows from God’s strength rather than your own. The greatest victories are often won in the quiet place before they are seen in public.

Key Takeaway

Your effectiveness in serving God is sustained not by how much you do, but by how deeply you remain connected to Him through prayer.

Beloved, guard your time with God as carefully as you guard your most important responsibilities. Let prayer shape your priorities, guide your decisions, and empower your service every day.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

1. What responsibilities are competing with your time alone with God?

2. How can you intentionally make prayer your first response instead of your last resort?

3. What practical step will you take today to strengthen your prayer life?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, give me a heart that delights in Your presence above every other pursuit. Teach me to prioritize prayer and to seek Your wisdom before every decision. Help me to remain faithful to the work You have entrusted to me, serving from a place of intimacy with You. May my life bear lasting fruit that brings glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
