TOPIC: YOUR WORD IS MY COUNSEL, O LORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.” —Psalm 119:24
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- When you need direction, whose voice do you consult first?
The psalmist describes God’s Word not only as delight, but as counsel. This is significant. Counsel implies guidance in decision-making, especially in moments where clarity is needed. It suggests that Scripture is not just something to admire—it is something to consult.
Many voices compete for authority in shaping decisions: experience, emotion, cultural influence, and personal preference. The psalmist makes a different choice. He treats God’s testimonies as trusted advisors, giving them weight when it comes to how he thinks and acts.
This changes how Scripture functions in daily life. It is no longer reserved for reflection alone, but becomes an active guide. Decisions are measured against it, and direction is sought through it.
Also, note that God is not silent within His Word. He speaks through it continually in our days. That means scriptural counsel is not outdated instruction— it is present guidance from a living voice. When Scripture is engaged, we are not consulting a static text, but listening to God who still directs.
This kind of counsel does not always confirm what we already want. At times, it corrects assumptions or redirects choices. But it does so with wisdom that sees further than we do. Trusting God’s Word as counsel means valuing its perspective even when it challenges ours.
Over time, those who consistently seek God’s Word for direction develop discernment. They begin to recognize what aligns with truth and what does not.
Key Takeaway
God’s Word provides wise counsel that guides decisions when you choose to listen and follow it.
Precious one, scripture is not just our reference point, but a trusted companion in decision-making. Today, choose to let the word of God determine your perspective, steps and conclusions.
Remain blessed.
