TOPIC: A BODY SET APART
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body… Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit… and you are not your own?” — 1 Corinthians 6:18–19 (NKJV)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What does it mean to have a body set apart for God’s own purpose?
In Corinthians, sexual sin was normal—even among professing believers. Paul didn’t excuse it; he confronted it head-on. His argument? Your body doesn’t belong to you—it belongs to Christ. And that truth collides with our culture’s message: “If it feels good, do it.”
Yes, God created your body, mind, emotions, and will. But He didn’t design them to function apart from Him.
Hunger and sexual desire are both natural—but they are not equal. Hunger is satisfied with food. Sexuality involves the whole person—spirit, soul, and body. It is sacred, and outside God's design, it becomes destructive.
Augustine, once a slave to lust, later wrote: “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” Sexual desire isn’t wrong, but misused, it becomes idolatry—seeking satisfaction in something God gave as a gift, not a god.
Chastity is not repression. It is freedom—freedom to honor God with our bodies, to love without using, and to desire holiness above pleasure.
John Chrysostom called sexual purity “the bloom of a soul that seeks to be wholly God’s.”
For those who have fallen, grace is not far. Paul writes to the same Corinthians, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, sanctified, justified…” (1 Cor. 6:11).
There is no stain that the blood of Jesus cannot cleanse.
To those standing strong, stay vigilant. To those struggling, rise in repentance. Purity is not just about what you avoid— it’s about who you belong to.
God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- Do I see my body as mine—or as God’s dwelling place?
- Have I made peace with impurity, or am I fleeing it?
- How can I cultivate holiness in my thoughts, desires, and actions?
PRAYER
Father, Thank You for creating me with purpose and for redeeming my body through Christ. Help me honor You with my desires. Strengthen me to flee what defiles and pursue what glorifies. Restore purity where it’s been lost, and renew joy in living set apart for You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
