TOPIC: CHANGE YOUR WARDROBE

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience… And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” — Colossians 3:12,14 (ESV)

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. How can one wear such things as kindness, compassion, patience, and more?

Once we’ve put off the old self with its sinful patterns, we’re not left empty-handed. Paul urges us to put on the character of Christ— an entirely new wardrobe that reflects our new identity as God’s chosen, holy, and beloved people.

Notice what we’re told to wear: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and above all, love. These virtues are not accessories; they are essentials that should define how we live and relate to others.

C.S. Lewis wrote, “The rule for all of us is perfectly simple. Do not waste time bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbor or not.” Since you love yourself so much, do to others as you would expect them to do to you. Love is a decision to act for the good of another, even when emotions lag behind.

And when love binds these virtues together, we begin to resemble Christ more and more.

To “put on” these qualities means we must be intentional. Just like getting dressed each day, we choose to clothe ourselves in Christ’s character by depending on the Holy Spirit and surrendering to His transforming work.

Gregory of Nyssa said, “The goal of a virtuous life is to become like God.” This passage reminds us that spiritual growth is not just about what we avoid but who we are becoming. When we live out these virtues, we become visible evidence of Christ's love to a hurting and watching world.

God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Which of these Christlike virtues do you most need to “put on” today?
  2. How can you intentionally practice that virtue in a relationship or circumstance you’re facing?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me new life and a new identity. Help me to clothe myself each day with Your character. Teach me to walk in compassion, humility, patience, and love. May others see You through me. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
