TOPIC: WHEN EARTH ANSWERS TO HEAVEN
THEME SCRIPTURE: “The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth.” (Revelation 8:7)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What happens when the first trumpet of the seventh seal is blown?
The silence has ended. Heaven speaks—and the earth trembles because the first trumpet of the seventh seal has sounded.
The first trumpet is not a symbolic calm. It is the rupture of the natural order: hail and fire mingled with blood hurled down.
A third of the earth scorched, trees consumed, green grass incinerated. It is the language of judgment—but also of divine confrontation. This is not a mere ecological disaster; it is heaven’s interruption of human rebellion.
The imagery echoes Exodus 9, where hail and fire plagued Egypt. God again declares, “Let My people go,” not from a physical Pharaoh, but from spiritual slavery, idolatry, and a world drunk on its own defiance. The plagues of Revelation are not arbitrary—they are targeted, deliberate, and purposeful.
As Origen once said, “God’s judgments are not vengeance; they are surgery.”
This first trumpet peels away the illusion of self-sufficiency. What man worships—creation, economy, environment—is shown to be fragile, contingent on grace. The warning is clear: the world will not endure under human pride.
As C.S. Lewis wrote, “God whispers in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains.”
For the righteous, this is not a call to fear but to readiness. The judgment of God is never detached from the mercy of God. Noah was not swept away with the flood; neither will God forget those who are His. Psalm 91 promises, “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” The distinction between the faithful and the faithless will grow sharper as the trumpets sound.
For the unrighteous, the first trumpet is a final mercy. Though destructive, it is not total.
One-third is judged; two-thirds remain. Space is left. Time is offered. God is giving the world one more chance to repent. One more chance to turn.
This moment challenges us: Will we harden our hearts like Pharaoh, or will we fall before the Lamb? The fire that consumes can also refine, if we are willing.
Today, examine yourself and what you’ve built your life upon. What would the first trumpet burn away? Repent where needed. Rebuild on what cannot be shaken. The trumpets will not cease until the kingdom comes.
Jesus is coming again.
