TOPIC: PERGAMOS: HOLD FAST AMIDST COMPROMISE

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Yet you hold fast my name... But I have a few things against you.” Revelation 2:13–14 (ESV)

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

1. What does it mean to hold fast to that which you have?

Pergamos was a city steeped in idolatry and imperial cult worship. The church there commendably held fast to Christ's name, even amidst persecution. However, they tolerated teachings that led to moral compromise, reminiscent of Balaam's deceit and the Nicolaitans' practices.

Compromise often begins subtly, justifying small concessions that eventually erode our spiritual integrity.

As believers, we must remain vigilant, ensuring that our commitment to Christ remains uncompromised, even when societal pressures tempt us otherwise.

Judas Iscariot was a chosen disciple. However, gradually, the deceitfulness of riches took over his heart. He eventually lost his place as an apostle of Christ. This is also the case with Samson in the Bible. He compromised by living a double life- a servant of God yet promiscuous.

To the faithful in Christ today, hold fast. Yeah, to those resisting the tide of compromise (in your marriage, in your workplace, in your singleness, etc.) your steadfastness is a beacon of hope. Continue to uphold the truth, knowing that Christ recognizes and rewards unwavering faith.

To those who have fallen into false or compromising lifestyles, wake up. If you've allowed worldly influences to dilute your faith, it's time to repent and realign with God's truth. Remember, partial obedience is absolute disobedience. Return to the purity of the Gospel.

O, our God, open our eyes...

He who has an ear let him hear.
