TOPIC: THE RIDER ON THE RED HORSE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Then another horse came out, fiery red. Its rider… was given power to take peace from the earth.” (Revelation 6:3-4)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- How would the world be without peace?
It has been repeatedly reported that there is a time soon approaching when there is going to be a major disaster striking all levels of human existence. Before these reports, John the Beloved had seen it all in his vision on the Patmos Island. The Lamb who was slain opened the second seal of the scroll which had been given to him, and there went another horse—the red horse. The red horse and its rider gallop with a sword, unleashing war’s chaos. Unlike Christ, who offers peace which surpasses understanding (John 14:27), this rider thrives on division—war. Historically, empires like Rome rose through conquest, masking brutality as order. Today, ideological wars—political, racial, or relational—fracture communities. The red horse rider would cause nations to rise against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms (Matt 24:7).
Tertullian warned, “Without the cross, there is no peace.” We combat strife by embodying reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18). Refuse to fuel hatred; instead, “overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21); seek peace and pursue it.
The red horse's gallop echoes across our news headlines. As Jerusalem remains a tinderbox (Zechariah 12:3) and superpowers posture for dominance, Christ's warning rings true: "Nation will rise against nation" (Matthew 24:7). The UN reports over 110 armed conflicts currently raging worldwide - from Ukraine to Sudan, each a grim and shadow fulfilment of this apocalyptic vision.
Beloved, war and chaos are coming, but there is hope for those who have entered into the rest of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The world order seems to be shifting, and Jerusalem is boiling. When the world demands we choose sides, we choose the cross. Like Bonhoeffer resisting the Nazi war machine, we're called to be "peacemakers" (Matthew 5:9) - not passive observers, but active reconcilers (2 Corinthians 5:18). So, in the moment, let us pray for Jerusalem. This city of peace has become the world's most contested ground and a reflection of the state of global peace at any time.
Precious one, for the weary, our peacemaking matters. The arc of the moral universe bends towards justice. For the wayward: The chaos you see is creation groaning for redemption (Romans 8:22). Return to your Maker's purpose.
Jesus is coming soon, and while diplomats scramble for ceasefires, Scripture promises: "He shall judge between the nations...they shall beat their swords into ploughshares" (Isaiah 2:4). As you watch the news today, remember: Every conflict is both a warning and an opportunity. The red horse rides, but the Lamb of God reigns.
Remain blessed
