TOPIC: HOLD FAST: I AM COMING SOON

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Because you have kept My command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world… I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.” Revelation 3:10-11 (ESV)

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

1. What does it mean to be prepared if Christ is coming soon?

In Revelation 3, Jesus speaks not to a world in rebellion, but to a faithful church—one that had held firm through hardship, that had kept “the word of [His] patience.” And yet, His voice sounds both encouraging and warning: “I am coming soon. Hold fast.”

This is not the slow unfolding of distant prophecy. This is the urgent call of a returning King. The Greek word for “soon” also means “quickly” or “suddenly”—without delay. Jesus is not stalling. He is waiting. And when He moves, it will be swift.

To the modern Christian, this text is both comfort and confrontation. Christ affirms that endurance matters. There is a crown promised to those who hold fast, who don’t let the fire of their faith flicker in the winds of compromise. Yet the caution is clear: crowns can be lost. Faith can be abandoned. Hope can grow cold.

So, what does it mean to live prepared?

It means to live in spiritual alertness—eyes fixed on Christ, heart anchored in His Word, hands engaged in His work. To be prepared is to resist apathy and reject distraction. It is to order one’s life around His return, not around convenience.

As Tertullian warned, “Hope is patience with the lamp lit.” Living prepared is not passive waiting—it is active devotion.

If you are holding fast today, rejoice. Your crown awaits. Your perseverance is not wasted. The One who promised will appear, and in His hands are the rewards for the faithful (Revelation 22:12). As Cyprian wrote, “What a dignity it is to be with Christ, to reign with Christ, and to rejoice with Christ.”

But if you have drifted, the call is urgent: return. Repent. Christ's return is almost now—this moment is mercy. Come home and live in Him, with Him, and for Him.
