TOPIC: READING THE SIGNS WITH URGENCY
THEME SCRIPTURE: “When you see all these things, recognize that He is near—right at the door.” (Matthew 24:33, NASB)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What are the signs of His coming and the end of the age?
- Are we living in the last days or not?
Jesus’ parable of the fig tree isn’t a cryptic riddle—it’s a call to discernment. Just as budding leaves signal summer’s approach, global unrest, deception, and moral decay (Matthew 24:6-12) point to His imminent return. The Lamb who died for sinners will reappear as the Lion who judges nations (Rev 5:5-6). For believers, this ignites holy anticipation; for the complacent, it’s a wake-up siren.
In 2020, as COVID-19 lockdowns spread, Sarah, a nurse in New York, faced despair daily. Yet she journaled: “These horrors remind me—Christ’s return is our only hope.” She started a prayer group for colleagues, turning fear into eternal focus. Her story echoes Paul’s charge: “Knowing the time, now is the hour to awake!” (Romans 13:11).
Martin Luther said: “The world is on a fast pass to judgment. Preach as if Christ died yesterday, rose today, and returns tomorrow.”
Beloved, there can only be two responses to the signs Jesus gave to us.
For the Watchful: “Look up, for your redemption draws nigh!” (Luke 21:28). Your faithfulness in chaos—praying, serving, forgiving—fuels heaven’s reward (2 Timothy 4:8). For the distracted: “Wake up before it is too late!” (1 Thess 5:6). The pursuit of comfort, likes, or wealth is fleeting sand. Christ’s return demands decisive allegiance.
Precious one, if we are going to live prepared, what must we do?
We must study bible prophecy. Dedicate 10 minutes daily to Scripture on Christ’s return (e.g., Revelation 21-22, 1 Thessalonians 4).
Let His truth recalibrate your priorities.
Further, we must discern deception. Test teachings against Scripture. John warns, “Many false prophets have gone out” (1 John 4:1). And lastly, be a blessing to others. Jesus said, “As you did to the least… you did to Me” (Matthew 25:40).
Jesus didn’t share these signs to spark fear, beloved, but faith. The same generation that sees the fig tree’s leaves will see the King’s glory. Live undaunted. The Lamb’s sacrifice secured you; the Lion’s return will crown you.
Heaven and earth will fade. His Word stands forever. If you believe it, then live prepared. God bless you more.
