TOPIC: THE LION IS COMING
THEME SCRIPTURE: “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:30)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Why would the Son of Man come on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory?
Jesus’ first coming was cloaked in humility—a Lamb slain for sinners. His return will roar with unignorable authority—a Lion judging nations (Rev 5:5-6). In Matthew 24, He strips away all ambiguity: creation itself will convulse, every eye will see Him, and eternity will pivot on that singular moment.
For his followers, this is not a threat but a triumph. For the indifferent, it’s a clarion call: Today’s choices echo forever.
Jim Elliot, a martyred missionary to Ecuador, wrote in his journal, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” At 28, he died speared by the Waorani tribe, yet his legacy of radical obedience still ignites believers. His life shouts: Live with urgency.
The King’s return is worth any cost.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “Prophecy is not given to satisfy curiosity but to stir readiness.” Beloved, are you living ready for Jesus' coming?
To the faithful in Christ, “Look up!” (Luke 21:28). Your faithfulness in obscurity—prayers, quiet service, unseen sacrifices—matters. “Your labor is not in vain” (1 Cor 15:58).
To the drifting, “Wake up!” (Eph 5:14). The pursuit of wealth, applause, or comfort is a mirage. Christ’s return dismantles all false refuges.
"So, what must we do?" you may be asking. You don't need to do much. Today, take time to audit your priorities: Then each morning, ask: “If Christ returned today, would I be ashamed of how I spent yesterday?” If your answer is "yes", then adjust.
Also, share the faith boldly. Commit to gospel conversations—one per week. Start with, “If God should ask me what I have done with my life on judgment day, what would I be proud to tell him?”
Lastly, love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus said His return hinges on how we treat the “least” (Matt 25:40).
Precious one, the disciples didn’t know when Christ would return—but they knew how to live: urgently, boldly, sacrificially. So must we. “Stay dressed for action, and keep your lamps burning” (Luke 12:35, ESV). The Lion is coming.
