TOPIC: God: “Where Is My Honor?”
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.” – Mathew 21:12-13
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What does it mean to honor God in worship and in your life?
- What have you done about the many dishonoring things happening in the church?
In a disturbing trend, the modern church has lost sight of God's honor. We've forgotten the reverence and awe that defined the Old Testament era, assuming that grace gives us license to worship without reverence. Our services have become profane, with gossip, social media posts, and self-promotion overshadowing the sacred moments. We've shifted the focus from honoring God to glorifying ourselves, our offerings, and worship becoming more about image than reverence. God keeps asking us: "Where Is My Honor?"
Consumed and preoccupied with His Father’s business, Jesus, on entering Jerusalem, immediately goes to “…the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves – Mathew 21:12.”
The temple was the most patronized business center during the Passover celebrations. Forex trade was booming, and buying to resell for profits was happening there, right in the temple courts.
The solemn ceremonies that brought the presence of God have now been turned into rituals with no connection to God.
Can you imagine the sight of doves, the bleating of sheep, goats, and other animals right at the temple courts? There was no hesitation with Jesus on exactly what He should do – He drove them out and overturned their tables. He restored sanity to the temple courts, reminded them that the temple was His Father’s house and it was meant to be a place of fellowship, worship, and prayer.
Dearly beloved in Christ Jesus, during this Lenten season and as we go through this Holy Week, may the question God posed in Malachi echo deeply in your heart: “Where is My honor?” Let it stir a holy discomfort that drives you back to reverence. Like Jesus cleansing the temple, we must allow Him to cleanse our hearts, our worship, and our churches of everything that dishonors God. He is not looking for showy performances but for pure hearts and sincere worship. Let this be a moment of honest reflection and intentional repentance.
Ask yourself: Is my worship pleasing to God or glorifying myself?
May we reverence God alone in our worship, honor Him in our services, and exalt Him alone at the center of our gatherings. May we return to true worship, where God is lifted high and holiness is our standard. Amen.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- What are the things you need to do away with to make your worship honoring to God?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, by Your Holy Spirit, grant me a fresh vision of Who You are, like Isaiah saw, and help me to accord You all the honor You deserve in my worship and way of life to Your glory and praise alone, in Christ Jesus. Amen.
