TOPIC: SAVIOR, CHRIST AND LORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”– Luke 2:10
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What does it mean for us that a Savior, who is Christ the Lord has been born?
Jesus, God in human flesh, has been born. Lying in a manger, the new born king has entered into the realm where both man and the devil co-exists.
A third party has joined the inhabitants of the earth. What a joy it was in heaven. This joy was expressed by a visit to some shepherds watching their flocks in the night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them and immediately the glory of the Lord shone around them (Luke 2:8). “What is this,” they might have wondered.
Shepherds were among those who were deemed lowly in society then. They watched whiles the well-to-do slept. How incredible it is that the good news had to be first shared with shepherds (Luke 2:10). The message was simple—there is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). Jesus was born with these three titles: “Savior”, “Christ” and “The Lord”.
Surely Jesus’ mission was to seek and save the lost.
As a Savior, He was born with a purpose just as a unique purpose is attached to every life God has placed on this earth. He knew the people his assignment related—the lost. This festive season reminds us of the birth of the true Savior for the lost, Jesus.
Jesus is the Christ, emphasizing His royalty. “Christ” or “Messiah”, the Anointed One (or Chosen One) is the title of the one who will bring us the ultimate instructions of God. Moses gave the law to the people of Israel, and added that God will raise unto them one like unto him [Moses]. They were to adhere to the law until that Chosen One comes because it is He we must listen (Deut 18:15-19).
Indeed Jesus is the Lord, and Lord of all.
His authority was defined from birth. He had the dominion over everything just as the first Adam was given authority over all that had been created. He walked in this authority all His days on earth such that even the storm hearkened to Him.
Beloved, how can you lack joy this festive season. You don’t need to received gifts and abundance of supplies this period before you leap for joy.
The shepherds were watching at night but they leaped for joy when they heard the glad tidings—your Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord has been born. Know this truth and rejoice—your Savior, Christ the Lord did put on flesh. He was born in a manger as nobody. He felt what you felt and He was rejected as you were rejected. Hence, He is able to succor us in all our struggles.
Precious One, God is your Savior. He is Lord of all. Therefore, you are blessed among men. Rejoice and be glad because you will always have the advantage. Blessed be God!
