TOPIC: FAITH AND OBEDIENCE
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, get out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, unto a land that I will show you.”– Genesis 12:1
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Where was Abram suppose to head towards when he had no idea his destination ?
Anytime God calls a man, He leaves him with a choice. If it is an instruction from God, man has a choice. God has never imposed His will on any man, even though He has always wanted the best for us. Hence, His warning to the Israelites through Moses, just before they entered the Promise Land was this: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both you and your seed may live.” (Deut 30:19).
The choice was theirs to make.
Similarly, God instructed Abram to leave his country and kindred, as well as his father’s house to a place He [God] will show him along the way. By this instruction, Abram was left with the necessity of choice. He was plunged into a situation where he either chooses Ur (his native country) or a new country he didn’t know. He was left to choose between the known and the unknown, the familiar and the unfamiliar. Amid all these seemingly overwhelming factors Abram was confronted with, two fundamental but critical choices remained—to obey or disobey, and to trust or distrust. Abram chose to obey God, so he went out of his country and father’s house, not knowing what was ahead of him (Heb 11:8).
It was very inconvenient, but he trusted God (Heb 11:9).
Beloved, the Holy Scriptures handed over to us is the story and experiences of men and women who used their choice to obey God or disobey Him, or to trust or distrust Him. Adam, the first man, disobeyed by choice but Abel chose to obey God. Noah chose to put his trust and confidence in God’s word, but the men of his days mocked the message of God. To obey is to carry out the instructions and dictates of another.
It takes faith to put confidence in the words and instructions of an unseen God and obey His voice. For without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6).
Precious one, do you trust God? How much do you trust Him? Do you trust Him enough to obey all His instructions, whether it is convenient for you or not? Talk can be cheap, but actions speak louder than words. If a man trusts God, he will be willing and ever ready to honor the instructions of God. Would you say that you honor God’s instructions, including His Great Commission command (Matt 28:19).
Are you living your life by the instructions of God’s word, or you are a man independent of God’s word?
Beloved, in matters of faith and obedience nothing has changed since Abram’s day. God still talks to people. He still works through people. He still expects man to trust and rely on Him for his safety and well-being. He is still unfolding His plans and purposes for you in ways which will leave you lost in wonder, love and praise. But He will require your reverential faith and filial obedience. Remain blessed.

PRAYER
Precious Lord, all you require of me is to trust and obey the One who has called me. There is no other way. I receive grace and strength to put my confidence in You, who is the Great Shepherd in every situation and under every circumstance, in Jesus’ precious name. Hallelujah!
