TOPIC: THE GRAND WEAVER

THEME SCRIPTURE: “And He said unto Abram, know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.” – Genesis 15:13

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Did God know what will happen to the descendants of Abram over 400 years ahead?
  2. How did God work this out?

What a misfortune! When a young, innocent teenager is only obeying the instructions of his father and finds himself in slavery, sold by his own brothers.

This is what happened to Joseph. He woke up one day, and all that he had to do was find his brothers, who had taken the flocks of Jacob to feed in Shechem (Gen 37:12). He was to bring word to the father whether his brethren were doing well (Gen 37:13–14). In Shechem, Joseph did not find his brethren but rather in Dothan (Gen 37:17). When his brethren saw him from afar, they began to plan his death (Gen 37:18–20). These brethren of Joseph hated him (Gen 37:11) because his dreams were too profound (Gen 37:6–8; Gen 37:9–10). Immediately Joseph arrived, they seized him, removed his beautiful tunic, and placed him in a dry pit (Gen 37:23–24). Not long after, some Ishmaelite traders were passing by, and his brethren changed their minds and rather sold him into slavery (Gen 37:27). These Ishmaelites brought Joseph to Egypt and sold him to Potiphar as a slave.

Precious one, it is only when a man does not know God and the ways of God that he will see misfortune in some instances.

Decades ago, God told Abram, the great-grandfather of Joseph, that his descendants would relocate to a foreign land to be slaves for 400 years. After that, He [God] will bring them back to the land of Canaan to possess it. Interestingly, God did not mention the name of the foreign land to which Abram’s descendants would go and serve. He also did not indicate how this was going to play out. God had a grand agenda for Abraham and his descendants, and in the midst of human inadequacies, wickedness, and corruption, He was weaving it out. Joseph had had a dream that he was going to be prominent someday. Little did he know that his dreams were strands of God’s tapestry. Joseph’s life in Egypt began the fulfilment of his personal dreams and the words God spoke to Abram concerning his descendants serving 400 years in a foreign land.

Beloved, you may be hurt and broken, wondering why life is this way for you. You may have asked, “Does God love me?”

Remember this: "Your life is part of the beautiful tapestry God is weaving out for His own glory." Many things may not have gone well, yet know this for sure: “If God called you out of darkness into the kingdom of His dear son, then He has you as part of His grand agenda." If He spoke to Abram about things to come over 400 years ahead, then trust God. He knew you before you were born, and before you became a new creation, He had ordained that you would become His poetry. In the midst of the challenges, the wickedness of men, and the enterprises of hell, God remains the Grand Weaver. Stay with the Grand Weaver, and He will bring you to a glorious end. God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. What has God spoken to you concerning your life? Do you still trust Him that He will bring to pass those things He has spoken?

CONFESSION

Precious Father, your word is yea and amen. What you have said about my life will not come back to you void. My trust and confidence is in you, who has called me into  a life union with your son Jesus. Glory Hallelujah!
