TOPIC: LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS-PT2

THEME SCRIPTURE: “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” – 1 John 4:4

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Are we of God? What does that mean?

Where are you from?” is a common question you answer many times when you travel. The question relates to your country of origin. But thinking of it carefully, had there been no manmade national borders like the ones we have, what would have been our country of origin? One of the most contentious subjects between theologians and scientists is the origin of man. There are too many speculations as to our origin.

If we do not know where we are from, how can we know where we are going?

Precious one, we cannot forget this: man is a spirit, and he dwells in a body, having also a soul (1 Thes 5:23). Such that the one who is joined to the Lord Almighty has become one spirit with Him (1 Cor 6:17). The body, which is the container for the human spirit, is made of dust. From dust it came, and from dust it will return (Gen 3:19). What about the human spirit?

According to our theme scripture, John the Apostle, by the Spirit, admonishes that we are of God.

John was not saying that we are on God’s side with his statement. Rather, we originate from God. How is that? “Being born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever” (1 Peter 1:23). We have been born again by the Word of God, who, in the beginning, existed and is God (John 1:1). No wonder it is written of us, “But you are come to Mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels. As members of the Church of the Firstborn, all our names have been legally registered as citizens of heaven” (Heb 12:22–23). O! Glory to God! Our citizenship is in heaven, and from there we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ (Phil 3:20). This is why Apostle Peter beseeches us, saying, “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul (1 Peter 2:11).

Beloved in Christ, your origin is not from here because you are not earthy. Your origin is heavenly, from above (1 Cor 15:47–48).

We are in the world, but we do not originate from it or belong to it. We are pilgrims and strangers here. Beloved, if you understand your origin, you will live like a pilgrim (Heb 11:13), having no attachment to material things. Neither will you live for the mere sake of acquiring material things. Rather, you will live for your true destiny. Your true origin will always be consistent with your true identity. Your true origin will point you towards your true destiny (Heb 11:14). God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. What have you believed all this while as your true origin?

CONFESSION

Thank you, Eternal Father. In you, my citizenship is not of the earth. I affirm that you are my source. My life will always be supernatural, far above the natural. Hallelujah!
