TOPIC: GOD’S PLEASURE AND PROVISION
THEME SCRIPTURE: “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” – Genesis 6:8
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- How did Noah find grace in the eyes of the Lord?
Even though grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (John 1:17), men of the Old Testament knew of God’s grace. Abraham’s righteousness was imputed to him because he believed in God (Rom 4:3). That is grace. Grace is the unmerited favor of God; it is God’s gift to man. And all around us are the gifts of God. That which is a gift cannot be worked for or made a right. It is the heart of God to lavish His children with loving kindness and tender mercies freely. Even though it is God’s pleasure to dispense grace for His people to walk in it, sometimes we like to walk in our own efforts, trying to prove our worth without God.
But can man live without God’s grace?
In a time and era when iniquity had abounded and the wickedness of man had become great, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord”, according to our theme scripture. In his days, God saw the wickedness of man to be great in the earth, and every imagination of the thought of his heart was only evil continually (Gen 6:5). In the midst of such a generation, it was said of Noah that “he was a just man and perfect” (Gen 6:9). Being a just man (referring to his proper behavior towards men) and perfect (referring more to his wholehearted commitment to the Lord), Noah stood tall in the midst of his generation. He found God’s favor for his life.
Precious one, God has always had His witnesses. There has never been a time in human history when things have become so dark that no ray of righteousness shone brightly for God.
We also live in a time and an age where chaos seems to rule and righteousness is not regarded. It will be God’s pleasure to see you stand tall among our generation, shining as God’s righteousness; His favor will abound more and more unto you. God shields the righteous with favor, and he will always be blessed (Psalm 5:12). The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry (Psalm 34:15). It is interesting to know that to God, the froward is an abomination, but His secret is with the righteous (Prov 3:32).
“What if I am froward and corrupt in my ways or a prodigal son”, you may ask.
God makes provision for all those who are interested in God’s free gift or grace to have a clean slate to start anew. In the days of Noah, God provided an ark for the salvation of those who understood the coming judgment of God (Gen 6:13–14). In our day, God has provided His Son Jesus as the solution to our corrupt lives and deliverance from damnation (John 3:16). It doesn’t matter who you are (male or female, young or old, literate or illiterate, rich or poor) or what you have done (murders or abortions, embezzlement or thefts, fornication or adultery, witchcraft or idolatry, occultism or divination), turn to Jesus, who is the true propitiation lamb for our sins (1 John 2:1–2), and you will be saved. For in Jesus, God offers us forgiveness of sins and a new creation imbued with His righteousness. Glory Hallelujah!
