TOPIC: HONORING MOM

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Honor your father and mother; (which is the first commandment with a promise); that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land” – Ephesians 6:2-3

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Why must we honor our parents?
  2. What does it mean to honor a mother?

I once encountered a woman fasting and praying in a church, like Hannah in the Bible. She was praying about something important to her. She was alone in the church building from morning until evening. I got there early for a church service. Seeing the lady all alone, I asked her what was going on. She shared that she needed God to come through for her regarding her marriage. I've always held that a father should ensure his children get married. Abraham did that for Isaac to safeguard the family inheritance. God must also help His children find great partners to preserve and promote His work in our lives. Thus, it didn’t amuse me that a child of God would fast so much because of marriage. At that moment, I purposed to declare for her what she’s prayed for because He who is sent by God speaks the words of God. Before I could do that, the Spirit nudged and spoke to me. After a brawl with the mom some years earlier, her mother, out of pain, said, “I regret giving birth to this daughter.”

From that moment on, a spiritual embargo fell on everything about her. Her marriage, finances, and job stagnated.

"Never fast again about your marriage; go and make amends with your mom, and you will get what you want," I told her.  She refused, arguing that her mom caused the fight.

Precious One, your mom may not be perfect, but God gave her to you. Interestingly, no one chooses the parents. Children are God's gift to parents, and vice versa. Honor your parents today, especially your mom. Mothers never forget their children. Single mothers have struggled and raised great men in all generations.

Therefore, God’s love is often compared to that of a mother (Isa 49:15).

On Mother's Day and always, honor your mom. Honoring a mother means showing her love, respect, and gratitude for her sacrifices and role in your life. Treat her with kindness and consideration. Honoring her means acknowledging her contributions and valuing her commitment to your life.

Spend quality time with her, give her gifts, and express appreciation for her being in your life.

Beloved, you may have a biological mother but also spiritual mothers and professional ones. Women whom God has used to shape and advance the course of your life. Honor them all so that it may go well with you and that you may live long. God bless you more.

  1. On Mother’s Day like today, what are your thoughts about your mom?
  2. How do you intend to honor and appreciate your mom?

PRAYER

Precious Father, thank you for the woman you have given me as a mother. I love her. Through her, your love and blessings have reposed on me. Continue to bless her; multiplying her days as the sand and her peace as the stars, in Jesus’ precious name.
