TOPIC: WALK IN THE SPIRIT (PART 1)
THEME SCRIPTURE: Galatians 5:16-18
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What does it mean when we say someone is spiritual?
- Would you say you are a spiritual person? On what basis, if your answer is yes or no?
- We often hear the statement - we are humans (flesh and blood). Can humans walk in the spirit?
Let’s remember this – if a man is not walking in the spirit then he is walking in the flesh. But what is wrong if I walk in the flesh? First, those who walk in the flesh (adultery, fornication, physical and moral impurity, wantonness, witchcraft, hatred, drunkenness, envying, anger, etc.) cannot please God (Romans 8:8). Secondly, to walk in the flesh is death (struggles, pain, problems, darkness, meaningless in life, etc.) – Romans 8:6. How then can I walk in the Spirit?
To walk (as used by the scripture) is to follow, or to thread around as proof of ability. In other words, to walk in the Spirit is to follow the Spirit or to walk in a way that shows that you have been born of the Spirit and so you have the abilities of the spirit. Then comes the biggest question – How do I follow the Spirit? The answer is simple – Can a man walk in the spirit or follow the Spirit without the Holy Spirit being first and foremost in his life? No is the answer. Why?
It is the Holy Spirit who quickens (makes alive or gives ability/enablement). But the flesh profits nothing (John 6:63). Thus, for a man to even have the strength to follow the Spirit it takes the enablement of the same Holy Spirit.
It is the Holy Spirit who comes into our lives to take away our fears and scepticism (Acts 2:14-15, Acts 2:41). Out of fear (of man), insecurity breeds and many sins are born. But where there is no fear of man we are well able to please God and follow the bidding of the Spirit.
If walking in the Spirit means following after the Spirit, then the Holy Spirit must be present in our lives to provide leadership so we can also follow His leading (John 16:13).
So, walking in the Spirit begins with receiving the Holy Spirit, and understanding who He is and how He operates. Let the consciousness of the ever-abiding presence of the Holy Spirit be with you from now going forward. Glory to Jesus!

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- If you are asked, “Who is the Holy Spirit” what will be your answer?
- What are some of the advantages the Holy Spirit has brought into our lives?
- How can we relate more with the Holy Spirit of God?
CONFESSION
Precious Father, thank you for the cardinal gift of the Holy Spirit of God, who dwells in me. I affirm that I am full of the Holy Spirit of God, being led day by day by His voice, promptings and directions. Today, I am being guided by the Spirit of God and I am responding to His leadership undeniably. So then, I can only bear fruits to the Glory of God this day, in Jesus' Precious Name. Amen
