TOPIC: MORE THAN RELIGION

PREPARATORY QUESTION 

1. Am I relying on religious activity, or have I truly experienced the transforming life of Christ?

Nicodemus was everything a religious person could aspire to be. He was a Pharisee, a respected teacher of Israel, and a member of the Jewish ruling council. Yet he came to Jesus by night with questions that his knowledge could not answer. His encounter with Christ revealed a truth that still confronts every generation: religious achievement can never replace spiritual rebirth.

Jesus did not commend Nicodemus for his education, influence, or moral discipline. Instead, He pointed him to his greatest need: "You must be born again." Entrance into God's kingdom is not secured by heritage, good works, or religious devotion. It is the result of the Holy Spirit giving new life to those who believe in Christ.

This is where revival begins. It is possible to be familiar with Scripture, faithful in church attendance, active in ministry, and yet lack the inward transformation that only God can produce. Revival is not about becoming more religious; it is about becoming spiritually alive. God does not merely improve the old heart—He gives a new one.

A heart that has been made new begins to desire what once seemed unimportant. Love for God's Word deepens. Sin becomes a burden rather than a habit to excuse. Prayer becomes communion rather than obligation. Obedience flows from affection for Christ instead of fear of punishment. These are not efforts to earn God's acceptance but evidence of His life within us.

Nicodemus' story also reminds us that sincere questions are not obstacles to faith when they lead us to Jesus. God welcomes those who seek Him with humble hearts. He is able to replace uncertainty with conviction and information with transformation.

Today, do not settle for the appearance of faith while neglecting its power. Ask the Lord to search your heart and renew you by His Spirit. A revived life is not marked merely by what it knows about Christ but by the unmistakable evidence that Christ lives within.

PRAYER 

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your desire is not simply to make me religious but to make me new. Search my heart and expose anything that has replaced genuine devotion to Christ. Fill me afresh with Your Spirit, renew my mind, and shape my desires to reflect Your will. Let my life display the fruit of a heart that has been transformed by Your grace. May true revival begin within me and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
