TOPIC: THE EXCLUSIVITY OF CHRIST

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” — John 14:6

Preparatory Question

  1. In a world of many voices and paths, do you truly believe and live as though Christ is the only way to the Father?

A post-Christian generation like ours allows anything to go; pluralism is the order of the day. Many accept all religions as valid, affirming multiple ways to God, and equalizing spiritual leaders as though they all speak for Him. The doctrine of the exclusivity of Christ Jesus (Solus Christus) is often rejected, and its proponents are branded arrogant. Yet Scripture is clear: there is no equalization of religions, no multiple paths to salvation — only Christ.

In John 13, Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, betrayal, and denial. Their hearts were troubled, but He assured them in John 14: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” He promised hope beyond death: “I go to prepare a place for you… I will come again and take you to myself.” Paul echoes this hope: “If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Corinthians 15:19).

Thomas’ question — “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” — drew forth Jesus’ bold declaration: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

  • I am the Way— Reconciliation with the Father is only through Christ. Many religions exist, but salvation is found in Him alone (Romans 10:9).
  • I am the Truth— Truth is not an idea but a person. Jesus liberates us from sin (John 8:32) and sustains us in sanctification. He is the Word (John 1:1).
  • I am the Life— In Adam came death, but in Christ all are made alive (1 Corinthians 15:21- 22). His life is eternal, welling up beyond this world.

Beloved, these words are not just comfort to the anxious — they are a dividing line in a pluralistic age. This Lenten season, let Christ’s exclusivity anchor your conviction: Is He truly your only way? Do you walk daily in His truth? Are you living in His life? May your answer be a resounding yes.

Confession

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ I have access to You, truth to liberate and guide me, and eternal life. Grant me grace to be firm in my conviction that only through Christ Jesus do we have the greatest opportunity to be with You eternally. Amen.
