TOPIC: I WILL NOT FORGET YOUR WORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.”—Psalm 119:16
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS
- What do you consistently remember—and what easily slips from your heart—the things of your work or the things of God?
The psalmist connects delight with memory: “I will delight… I will not forget.” This is not accidental wording. What we delight in, we tend to retain. What we value, we revisit. Forgetting here is not just a lapse of memory—it is a drift of attention and affection.
The psalmist is not merely promising mental recall. He is committing to a life where God’s Word remains active within him, shaping decisions long after the moment of reading has passed. Forgetting, in this sense, would mean losing the influence of truth in daily life.
A. W. Tozer’s insight gives this added weight: God is not silent after Scripture is read. He continues to speak through it. That means forgetting God’s Word is not just losing information—it is neglecting a living voice that still intends to guide, correct, and strengthen us.
Spiritual forgetfulness often happens quietly. It is not usually a sudden rejection of truth, but a gradual replacement—other voices, concerns, and priorities crowd out what God has said. Over time, what once felt clear becomes distant.
The psalmist counters this with intention: delight that leads to remembrance. He understands that sustained obedience depends on sustained remembrance. To keep God’s Word close is to keep His direction close.
This is not about perfect recall of every verse, but about allowing Scripture to remain present in the way we think, respond, and choose.
Key Takeaway:
Delighting in God’s Word helps keep it active in your life, shaping you long after you read it. Cultivate your delight in God’s Word, and you will find it influencing every aspect of your life. The more you delight in the Word, the more you embrace it.
Remain blessed
