TOPIC: READY FOR HIS RETURN
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” — Matthew 24:42 (NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTION:
1. If Jesus returned today, would my life show that I am truly ready for His coming?
The same Jesus who walked the dusty roads of Galilee, who wept, bled, died, and rose again—that Jesus is coming back. Not a new version. Not a symbolic return. The same Jesus—glorified, exalted, and reigning—will appear again, just as He ascended.
But His return will not be quiet.
Scripture warns us: “The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” (1 Thes 5:2). Not because Jesus is deceitful, but because many will be distracted—lulled into spiritual sleep by comfort, ambition, or indifference. As Augustine wrote, “He who loves the coming of the Lord is not he who says it is far off, but rather he who awaits it as imminent.”
Christ will not return as the suffering servant, but as the righteous Judge—the Lion of Judah (Rev 5:5).
For those who have longed for His appearing, His return will be joy beyond measure. But for those who have lived for power, pleasure, or prestige, His coming will be a dreadful awakening.
The world scoffs at the idea of His return. But Peter reminds us: “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise… He is patient… not wanting anyone to perish” (2 Peter 3:9). His delay is mercy. His return will be justice.
So how should we live? With urgency, not panic. With hope, not fear. With holiness, not compromise.
The early church lived with eyes lifted—not to escape the world, but to prepare it for His return.
Tertullian once said, “It is certainly the highest and most exalted good to await the coming of the Lord.” Let that anticipation shape how you love, work, give, and speak today.
God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
1. Am I living as if Jesus could return today—or as if He never will?
2. What areas of my life reflect readiness, and what areas reflect spiritual sleep?
3. If Jesus returned today, would I greet Him with joy or shrink back in shame?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, awaken my heart to the reality of Your return. Let me not be caught unaware or entangled in the world’s distractions. Shape my life with eternity in view. Help me live watchfully, faithfully, and joyfully, ready to welcome You as my King. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
