TOPIC: ROOTED IN UNFAILING TRUST

THEME SCRIPTURE: "But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green." — Jeremiah 17:7–8 (NIV)

 

PREPARATORY QUESTION:

1. Where is my confidence truly rooted—in human strength and worldly security, or in the unfailing faithfulness of God?

 

Precious One, it is satisfying if you should be rooted in what cannot fail. Jeremiah draws a sharp contrast between two kinds of people: those who trust in man, and those who trust in God. One is like a withering shrub in the desert— isolated, dry, unfruitful. The other, like a well-rooted tree by a river, thrives even in adversity. The difference? Where their trust lies.

To trust in man is to depend on what is ultimately unstable—opinions, systems, even ourselves. Human strength can never replace divine sufficiency.

But those who put their trust (confidence) in the Lord find a source of life that never dries up.Their roots go deep into His faithfulness. The storms come, the droughts hit— but they remain steady, fruitful, and alive.

This trust doesn’t happen overnight. It’s cultivated. Trust grows as we remember His past faithfulness,meditate on His promises, and act on His Word. The more we draw from His living water, the deeper our roots grow.

Are you in a dry season? Is the heat of life pressing in? Sometimes, those who trust in the Lord are tempted to think that it would be all rosy.

God doesn’t promise ease, but He does promise sustaining grace. Even when we can’t trace His hand, we can trust His heart. As Charles Spurgeon said, “God is too good to be unkind and too wise to be mistaken. When you cannot trace His hand, trust His heart.”

God never fails, beloved. The systems of this world will crumble,  people will disappoint,  the words of men can be cheap, power can change hands, but those who place their confidence in the Almighty will remain green and fruitful—even in drought.

PRAYER

Lord, You alone are worthy of my full trust. Forgive me for leaning on human strength or my own understanding sometimes. Teach me to root my heart in You—to trust even when I cannot see. In drought or in plenty, I am staying evergreen, fruitful, and strong in You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
